This is a moment of national pride for all Indians here in India and abroad. At this momentous occasion, President Ms Pratibha Patil will unfurl the national Flag on the famous Red Fort. millions of people flock to Red Fort to have a glimpse of this day making history. The World’s largest democracy celebrates its 62nd anniversary.
Every Indian must take an oath, this day, to maintain peace, to grow together, to help each other…. amen
Millions of school colleges central and state organisations, every individual shall hoist Tiranga. And the ceremonies shall end with National Anthem.
The national anthem is composition of Nobel laureate Shri Rabindra Nath Tagore. It goes like this:

62nd anniversary? What do you celebrate on 15th august then? Independence right? So how is this different?
and isnt sindh completely in pakistan? How come its still in the anthem?
hey Sufia, This was the poem written for India- the undivided India, long before the seeds of division were sown by british.
15th August is Independence day as yours is 14th August. Republic day celebrates the coming of Constitution in force, As you celebrate March 23rd more known as Pakistan day 🙂

oh..so its like “sara jahan se acha”..that was written by iqbal, long before he changed his mind and started advocated for pakistan instead 🙂
And the song “Saare jahan se achha hindostan hamara” is sung all through out India 🙂

As wikipedia says:
Indian national Anthem is first stanza of five parts of the song written by Rabindra Nath Tagore. It was first sung in 1911 in calcutta (Now kolkata) session of Indian National Congress.
God bless America was first WRITTEN in 1918.
