That One Book !

I don’t consider myself  an habitual book reader for I can’t go on reading books for long. When i get bore of any particular book I change. I change to either another book or to Internet, especially blog reading. Few books which I have read in the past have really helped me to understand self and the world around me. But, one book which I really wish reading several times is “The old man and the Sea“. The book is based on the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, a story of personal triumph won from loss.

It’s a story of an old fisherman named Santiago who has a streak of unlucky 84 days. His aide, a boy who respects him a lot and often takes care of him by serving him dinner and talking to him about baseball. the story begins on the 85th day when the old man decides to go to gulf for he felt his lucky charm is coming to him.

To hell with luck. I’ll bring the luck with me.

He sets sail to deep seas. After a long wait a marlin takes his bait. What follows is an enduring struggle for life between the old man and the marlin and afterwards the old man and the sharks. An interesting and must read story by Ernest Hemingway.

However the book was put to test by several critics who found fault with the overall book including his idea behind writing the book and even his religious beliefs. However none could deter him to be honored with the prestigious Nobel Prize for Literature in the year 1954.

It was his last of major works and greatest success.

Now is the time to think of only one thing. That which I was born for.
