Well done Bangladesh !

In Cricket, World cup on March 11, 2011 at 11:55 pm

Two tweets, that completely describe the England-Bangladesh match.

Mpumelelo Mbangwa tweets, “Well done Bangladesh! Just walked into the lounge to see the winning runs…who would have thought this after the 54 all out.”

Castrol rating of Bangladesh

Harsha Bhogle tweets, “well done bangladesh.you showed the strength to overcome “that” day.i feared you might crumble under weight of expectations.you didn’t.”

Michael Vaughan corrects his tweet, “Still wear your helmet lads.. To hide yourself from anyone seeing you..”

Castrol rating of England

Whatever the stats say for the Zimbabwe former cricketer turned commentator but the words are apt for BD. Nobody would have thought BD would come back with BANG!…Boom! After 54 all-out, even English team would have termed them as One day wonder. It would have definitely made them complacent. Foe they played like they have already won the match against BD. English team finally paid price for their complacency.

The English team is tumbling down the hole. Their performance in this edition of World Cup has been better against good teams, as they defeated South Africa and almost defeated India. But their worst performances came against so-called weak teams. 3 wickets loss against Ireland, and 2 wickets loss against Bangladesh. In both these circumstances, English bowlers failed to contain rival batsmen. As Ireland went up to pile up 300 runs to chase England’s 327 and today Bangladesh after having suffered 54 all out in earlier match, came back well. It was Bangla tail that wagged in the end and wagged to finish the game in style.

English team have to do exceptionally well from here to keep their hope alive. While Bangladesh team, as Harsha tweeted, have overcome their fear of ‘that day‘. They have done extremely well today and need few more push ups to cross the barrier.

best of luck !!!

India just Lost the First match

In Cricket, Opinion, Sports, World cup on February 19, 2011 at 10:35 pm

Well well well… So India won its first match today Against Bangladesh. Scorecard is available on various websites. And cricket enthusiast would not have missed a single ball on TV. Btw I dropped my plan to buy a portable TV for world cup, probably that was insane. you might wonder, what was insane? either buying TV or not buying TV.

Anyway, Thanks to my Photon connection, I just was just not able to watch Live streaming courtesy http://www.espnstar.com, So yahoo cricket ball-by-ball commentary was my respite.

Coming to the point, India won its first match in 2011 edition of world cup against Bangladesh. A thumping total of 370 runs was just not possible without ‘the‘ Sehwaag’s onslaught and a confident 100 run from Virat Kohli. Anyway, it was against the bowlers of Bangladesh. But runs are runs, isn’t it? Sehwaag’s 175 is just right for the start India will wish to have him in other matches, where opponents are stronger and smarter. Batting department was overall good.

Lets come to bowling. I felt Bangladesh total of 283 was much more than what anybody would have expected from Indian Bowlers. Disregarding what the so-called Cricket experts say about home support and what and what not, I say, India Lost this match for lack of bowling expertise. Zahir khan scalped his first victim after some 20th over. Only Munaf could invade B’desh top order batsmen. Sreesanth was too expensive to be bowling in world cup and Yuvi just fails to impress with his above 6 run rate.

Any way batting is shining armor in Team India.

On a final note, while batting was shining, Bowling failed India.

Cricket World Cup 2011

In Cricket, Sports, World cup on February 16, 2011 at 11:54 pm

India not unlike its subcontinent sibling Pakistan, Bangladesh and Srilanka is a cricket frenzy nation. The cricket fever is gaining momentum as the D-day is nearing. Media is ripe with all kinds of speculations, anything related to cricket and it’s the buzz of the town.
It was the third day for warm up matches and teams are showcasing their batting and bowling prowess. Today’s match between India and South Africa was awesome delight. India scored 360 runs in 50 over. But the important thing was the batting of Virat kohli and Raina and the most important thing was the coming form of MSD -Indian captain. He stole the show with not out century in less than 70 balls. Indian fans had been waiting for this moment from him since long. And it was good that it came up at the right time.
World cup starts from 19th Feb and then it will be hell of a party…. Stay tuned to Star cricket…
good night
ciao
