Book: Fall of Giants by ken Follett

In Book Reviews, Pictures, scribblings on March 7, 2011 at 9:58 pm

I had this feeling yesterday, it was like I wanted to write something or the other but could not think of anything to write. So I took a break and turned to my first love-Reading.

The book I’m currently reading is Ken Follett’s Fall of Giants” – Book one of the century Trilogy. So far I have been able to complete only half of the book. Definitely, my reading speed has taken its toll. I remember having read Ayn Rand’s “ Atlas Shrugged ” in straight 8 hours and that too during break in my Graduate Examinations.

Ken Follett's Fall of Giants

Few good things I’m liking about this book:

  • While I’m reading it, a kind of motion picture is running through my mind. This happened earlier too when I was reading Mario Puzo’s The Godfather and Gone with the Wind. I saw the movies later.
  • I get into the characters. How interesting ! given that there are so many a characters in the book, so far what I have read. And each one is different from the other.
  • And to my surprise, this book, despite having more than 1000 pages, is light as feather. 🙂
  • My next read is Chanakya’s Chants, have Ordered it through Flipkart. Hopefully it will reach in 3 days. By that time I shall finish Fall of Giants.
Little About Chanakya’s Chants

You must be knowing Chanakya – Author of Atha shashtra “Science of wealth”. History knows him as the brilliant Strategist. Vows for the revenge of his murdered father, he with his strategic ability and acumen installs Chandragupta on the throne of Mauryan Empire. It was during his term that Alexander invaded India and it was again his brilliance that Alexander had to stop his dream of conquering the world and had to return to his land. This happened some thousands of years ago.

The wheel has turned again. Another Chanakya has breathed life in India. Will he be able to be as powerful as the real Chanakya? Will the politics of India see a change?

Aah, Chanakya has always fascinated me. And fiction based on him, worth reading.

Very powerful words !

As I said in my last post, I’m enchanted with this movie. Here I’m gonna write few lines which I liked most in this movie… Some lines which you would generally miss in the flow of the movie.

[The picturisation when they come out of their respective houses, in the beginning of the movie, where they cross each other every time without having known each other, they go to same place but don’t recognize each other is simply superb.]

It is not Personal, Strictly business.

F…O…X…. Can you spell cat? …F…O…X….

Just call me Joe….

What were you doing…. Twirling…

What’s with Men and Godfather?

Godfather is answer to all your Questions. Supposw you have to go somewhere and you ask what should i pack? … leave the canary …take the gun… What day of week it is?…. San day…Man day….

So dearie what have you decided to do? CLOSE… I’m going to Close… Close…Closing the Store is the bravest thing to do…

You’re daring to Imagine that you could have a different life…. You feel like a big fat failure now, but you’re NOT. You are marching into the unknown armed with … Nothing.

if you need more ask me… I’m very rich… I bought Intel at 6.

Is there someone else? No … no but there is a dream of someone else.

The song in background – remember… remember…Life is never as it seems….. Dreeeeeeeeeeeaaammmmmm….. far away…life was clear… close your eyes…

Funny!!

“Everyone should jump in air.

what???

We jump, the elevator thinks no one is here, and it opens.

One.. two… Three.. Jump…”

People are always telling you that Change is good thing but all they are really saying is that something you didn’t want to happen at all, has Happened.

“How can you forgive this guy for standing you up….. and not forgive me for this tiny little thing… putting you out of business….Oh How I wish you would….

Finally…

I’ll say Goodbye to all my sorrow and by tomorrow I’ll be on my way. I guess the lord must be in New York city
