Ind Vs Nz

In Cricket, Pictures, Sports, World cup on September 12, 2012 at 12:04 am

Count down has begun. The much celebrated the newest and craziest format of cricket – T20. The mahakumbh of T20 The world cup is to begin in just 2 weeks time. Ahead of that India has very limited number of games for the practice and experiments MSD has to do away with.

However, Today, another T20 game between India and Newsland was a last ball finish. Thanks to MSD and team. news land was certainly better team today. The thing Indians are cheering even after the defeat is that ‘Yuvraj-backbone of Indian T20 team is back’.

Lets not get into details of whys? and hows? But one mentality I have seen is they intend to create pressure and let things loose till the end and get it hasten when the deadline arrives- procastinate Is this the mentality of people in general. The way msd took 6-7 dots, certainly cost us the game. No grudges against mccullam and franklin who played wonderfully for NZ

Diwali and Eid came early this year

So against all odds, India made it to the final of the world cup. But it’s CELEBRATIONS all around, every nook and corner of India.

Records are still straight, India has managed to get over Pakistan , even in this edition of world cup. Out of 5 world cup encounters between the two Asian Lions, India has kept it straight 5 of 5.

However, prior to the match I was very skeptic about the outcome of the match. I had my own concerns. (Read my earlier Post) I knew Indian team will have to go past 300 to save their arse, simply because bowling department failed to deliver in this tournament. And given that Pakistan has quite good bowlers in their armory had made it worse.

I would admit that I was aghast when I saw Nehra and Munaf in bowling lineup instead of Ashwin and few others. My initial reaction was of the Lost soul, ready to nimble pieces of captain cool.

Nothing could have been worse than India stumbling again in the middle overs and No sachin to carry on the burden. The great Indian collapse had begun just like Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. As often captain cool stuck to singles without any heavy hitting and Raina kept his cool while the wickets tumbled on the other end. Finally we reached a score which seemed easy given our bowling attack.

But like India, its neighbour Pakistan is made of same steel and share same traits. In one word – UN-PREDICTABLE.

Nehra and Munaf did a splendid job controlling the Pakistani batsmen, who threw their wickets as if they were in a hurry to catch flight back to Islamabad. 5 bowlers scalping 2 wickets each. And the job was done. Nehra emerged out be the most economical of the lot with S.R. of 3.3, Still I feel the same about him. Should he be there in Final, I doubt.

Anyway, as soon as Zaheer got Misba ul haq caught, crackers buzzed off. Every nook and corner, every streets, people came out of their homes and congratulated others bursting crackers. Diwali & Eid at the same time. However they both came early this year.

Sachin was awarded “Man of the Match” for his knock of 85. Thanks Afridi for not letting the God complete his century, even he wanted this. Century can definitely wait for few matches [ I don’t mean to be rude. But yes, I’m bit superstitious here.]

April 2nd waits for another edition of Ramayana. India play against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Wankhede Stadium

till then

Have a nice day ahead!

Sleep tight!!!

The World awaits for this moment – the clash of Titans. Barely is there any other worthwhile matches like Indo-Pak match (save for Ashes). For the love and hatred that exist between the two neighbours, it’s the cricket which is next to the fight at border for the citizenry of India and Pakistan. Even God is busy watching the titans’ firepower.

In this tournament, both teams have shown their stamina and power. India after few hiccups turned punters on the flight back to Australia. While Pakistan has proved time and against in this series that despite loosing their pace bowlers, they still can give a tough fight to any teams . And here they both are for once in a time affair match. However, going by the statistics, India has always overpowered Pakistan in world cup matches. But this time, it is different. India is suffering from lack of strike bowlers and their ability to lose wickets in short intervals can cost them dear. Pakistan has done extremely well in their bowling department.

And when the two lions have are due for Semifinal clash, God has its own plan. It’s raining cats and dogs in Mohali tonight. Media has gone crazy, as if it’s not a torrential rain but some terrorist attack.

People in both the countries shall have sleepless nights. Early morning many atheist shall pray for the first time for their country to win (as if it were some  confrontation at border).

That’s Mohali cricket ground for you.

My advice to the fellow countrymen and our neighbors, “Sleep tight for the post match session shall be full of tension.”

Good Night

Well done Bangladesh !

In Cricket, World cup on March 11, 2011 at 11:55 pm

Two tweets, that completely describe the England-Bangladesh match.

Mpumelelo Mbangwa tweets, “Well done Bangladesh! Just walked into the lounge to see the winning runs…who would have thought this after the 54 all out.”

Castrol rating of Bangladesh

Harsha Bhogle tweets, “well done bangladesh.you showed the strength to overcome “that” day.i feared you might crumble under weight of expectations.you didn’t.”

Michael Vaughan corrects his tweet, “Still wear your helmet lads.. To hide yourself from anyone seeing you..”

Castrol rating of England

Whatever the stats say for the Zimbabwe former cricketer turned commentator but the words are apt for BD. Nobody would have thought BD would come back with BANG!…Boom! After 54 all-out, even English team would have termed them as One day wonder. It would have definitely made them complacent. Foe they played like they have already won the match against BD. English team finally paid price for their complacency.

The English team is tumbling down the hole. Their performance in this edition of World Cup has been better against good teams, as they defeated South Africa and almost defeated India. But their worst performances came against so-called weak teams. 3 wickets loss against Ireland, and 2 wickets loss against Bangladesh. In both these circumstances, English bowlers failed to contain rival batsmen. As Ireland went up to pile up 300 runs to chase England’s 327 and today Bangladesh after having suffered 54 all out in earlier match, came back well. It was Bangla tail that wagged in the end and wagged to finish the game in style.

English team have to do exceptionally well from here to keep their hope alive. While Bangladesh team, as Harsha tweeted, have overcome their fear of ‘that day‘. They have done extremely well today and need few more push ups to cross the barrier.

best of luck !!!

The first Upset of World Cup 2011

Upset of Cricket world cup 2011

Games at Bangalore are now a part of expecting something Unexpected. First a TIE, first of the edition and now an Upset, another first of the Edition. And sadly both involved English Team. 🙂 While the last match played between India and England was quite painful, Today it was awesomeness all around. With English Team being the surprised lot.   😛

Whoaaaa ! what a thrilling match. What India could not achieve so-called minnows – Ireland did it. What a fight back. Kudos to you team… I take a bow.

England put up a huge total against Ireland, just like India 😐 , a total of 327. Sadly none of their batsmen could score a century but again it was a team effort. 4 of them scored half century and Trott fell prey to nervous nineties. Tremendous bowling by Irish bowlers, especially Mooney.

Never would have Brits dreamt about such an innings from Irish team. Once down for 111 for 5, to muster a win needs lots of courage. And Kelvin came after English Bowling and not only scored the fastest century ever of the World Cup 🙂 but also staged an Upset – the first of this edition. Strauss was clearly unhappy about bowling and fielding (not unlike Dhoni) but the real showman of the day was Kelvin O’Brien. Kelvin’s star-studded inning of 113 of just 63 balls (a strike rate of 179.37 OMG) with 13 boundaries and 6 sixes harassed all English bowlers. Alex Cusack and Mooney again played another good innings with bat and the result is an unexpected UPSET.   🙂 🙂 🙂
