“10 Steps to Becoming a Better Writer

Write.
Write more.
Write even more.

Write even more than that.

Write when you don’t want to.
Write when you do.
Write when you have something to say.
Write when you don’t.
Write every day.
Keep writing.”

“1. Write like you’ll live forever — fear is a bad editor.
2. Write like you’ll croak today — death is the best editor.
3. Fooling others is fun. Fooling yourself is a lethal mistake.
4. Pick one — fame or delight.
5. The archer knows the target. The poet knows the wastebasket.

6. Cunning and excess are your friends.
7. TV and liquor are your enemies.
8. Everything eternal happens in a spare room at 3 a.m.
9. You’re done when the crows sing.”

BOOKS – YOUR THE BEST FRIENDS

In Blog, Books on October 6, 2012 at 8:00 am

English: Five young men sit clustered closely ...

Off late the reading habit had taken a back seat and all work … but the frenzied mind wanted some peace of mind and what else then to read something… fortunate enough i got some advice from fellow readers, bloggers and got hold of few books. One of them is the Krishna key. it was supplied by Blogadda.com – a blog community which offers books to bloggers to write their review. And trust me it was definitely a nice read. I shall update the review of the book in a day or two… Currently it is saved in draft and needs a rework.

Secondly, I had ordered two books from flipkat.com. 1) Indispensable 2) the long tail. About the second book, I had read an extract about it in my friend’s new venture… summarytown.com (a wonderful website to read to the point abstract. do refer to it). And it got me interested and i booked a copy. Before I start this, I need to read indispensable when the leaders really matter by gautam mukunda, published by Harvard Business review press. The first few pages has caught me in it..The thing which caught my attention is the simplicity of the words in which he has tried to explain the complex issues… I shall soon update my blog readers about this wonderful book.

Till then

happy reading!

Easy reading is damn hard writing.Nathaniel Hawthorne

Many people have a common (mis) conception, that those who write heavy and loaded words in their sentences are damn good writer. I do have. However, writings which are easy to read are rare. It’s because such writings are damn hard to write.

Why we write?

How many times have you asked this question to your self? I just stumbled upon this awesome Blog Why we write?, where people have shared their opinion about this very question Why We Write? Each story is intriguing. You can find some commonality between yourself and the blog post writer.

Reading has been my hobby and writing came along with it  coincidently. Now I enjoy writing. I might not be a very good writer but I’m just giving it a shot. My sole purpose of writing is to get myself better at this and to upgrade my intellect by reading many blogs.

Why We Write - Number 52: Reader-Submitted Essay Number 52Today’s piece is written by Natasha Costa, a reformed reporter. One of the first clear memories I have is of reading. When I was about two years old I went through that “why?” phase that so many children have, and my parents always, without fail, pulled out the encyclopedia set they’d spent so much money on and had me sound out what I was asking about. It was all very exciting back then; first came the ABC song and then learning how to stri … Read More

A Trip down the Memory lane

My Purpose

Every trip you undertake always has a purpose. Be it for fun or a quick visit to your hometown or for adventure  and so on and on. I had one such trip, I would like to share it with you.

It was chilly December of 2008, I made a trip with few of my friends and our guru. Winter was  in its prime in North India. River Koshi had created havoc in most of the northern districts of Bihar. Koshi is often called ‘Sorrow of Bihar‘ for the havoc it creates every year. Millions of lives are affected every year. People lose their homes, their cattle even their agricultural land to River Koshi.

The team decided to visit the nearest flood affected area in Madhepura District. Since the bridge connecting Purnea and Madhepura was broken, we sent the truck load of relief materials a day ahead on Saturday. Students of batulda, who are present across India, helped to create fund. And materials like old clothes were sent to our place, from where it had to be distributed to affected areas.  On chilling Sunday morning, we embarked on a journey for shram-daan, the least we could do.

It was barely visible outside, but the cab driver was on its full flow. He belonged to the same village we were going to.

We had to leave the cab on this side of river.  We took a boat ride to other side. Another cab was already there.

There was another bridge broken which Indian Army had fixed, within 24 hours of it being broken.

Few more Pictures will tell you the Story. Check out the Slide show.

That day I had a feeling of satisfaction. The whole group enjoyed the process and while we were returning everyone had a wonderful smile on their faces. Check out this video, I shot while returning.
